A Texas district court this week issued a temporary injunction against a wind turbine recycling company that has stockpiled thousands of wind turbine blades at two facilities in Sweetwater. The temporary injunction orders Global Fiberglass Solutions to immediately cease accepting shipments of wind turbine blades and to remove all the blades within the next two years. Within 30 days the company must deposit a bond of at least $3.5 million with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as financial assurance. The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed more than $3.5 million in fines against three companies after federal inspectors determined they failed to protect workers during post-emergency response cleanup after a chemical spill at the BWC Terminals industrial facility in Channelview, Texas. The department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration initiated three inspections after a Dec. 27, 2025, sulfuric acid spill at the BWC Terminals LLC industrial facility led to multiple employee injuries. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urged owners of 463,000 Kia crossover SUVs to park outdoors because of fire risks until new recall repairs are completed. Kia said it would recall 463,000 Telluride crossovers in the U.S. from the 2020 through 2024 model years because the front power seat motor may overheat, potentially causing a fire. NHTSA said the vehicles were recalled in 2024 for the same issue and must be parked outside away from buildings and other vehicles until the new remedy is completed. The U.S. Justice Department said on Friday it had filed a proposed settlement with the owner and operator of the Keystone oil pipeline to resolve Clean Water Act violations related to a 2022 rupture in Kansas. Keystone ships Canadian crude from Alberta to the U.S. Midwest and on to the Gulf Coast, and is a key part of Canada’s oil export network. In December 2022, the pipeline spilled about 14,000 barrels of oil into a creek in Washington County, Kansas, the biggest U.S. oil spill in nine years.
