The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has named Sabrina Timmins, a senior vice president at CNA insurance, as chair of the foundation’s Southeast region. Timmins Timmins heads the South regional for Chicago-based CNA, one of the largest commercial insurers in the United States. At IICF, she succeeds Dan Kennedy, managing executive at CRC Group who has been head of the charity’s Southeast region since early 2024, the foundation said in a news release. Lely North America, Inc., an international agricultural technology company headquartered in Pella, Iowa, agreed to resolve a discrimination charge filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced. The EEOC’s charge investigation found that Lely violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it failed to provide a wage increase to a former employee on the basis of sex. The investigation also found that the former employee was harassed and constructively discharged on the basis of age, in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. A legislative committee will hear from the Texas Railroad Commission on Tuesday as the agency prepares to update its rules for inactive oil and gas wells, now required under state law. The Railroad Commission regulates oil and gas production. It also oversees nearly 160,000 such wells in Texas, and they are at greater risk of becoming orphans, meaning the operator in charge has gone missing or has been bankrupt for at least 12 months. A survey commissioned by the Big “I” found 87% of consumers said having a human insurance agent is important when making insurance decisions. Three people were killed and one injured when a TV news helicopter crashed between two commercial buildings in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles, the city’s fire department said. The helicopter was providing coverage for KNBC and Telemundo 52, the stations said. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department statement. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has informed Springfield (Massachusetts) Public Schools that the district’s data has been breached as a result of the recent cyberattack that closed schools last week. The breach appears to include staff and student information. The full extent of the information breached and where the information has been leaked remains under investigation, officials said. The owner and operator of an unlicensed prize insurance company who for years avoided paying claims, ignored cease and desist orders, and has been convicted of illegal sales and theft has pleaded guilty to fraud. Kevin Kolenda of Norwalk, Connecticut this week pleaded guilty to wire fraud in federal district court, according to David X. Sullivan, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Kolenda’s jury trial was set to begin on September 23. The federal charges against him were brought in April 2024.
