The competition, which starts June 11 and ends in New Jersey on July 19, is also being played in Mexico and Canada. Officers from agencies including state police in New York and…

American International Group (AIG) announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Everest Group’s Colombian insurance subsidiary. AIG said the acquisition of Everest Compañía de Seguros Generales Colombia S.A. (Everest Colombia) strengthens its presence in the Latin American region and supports the company’s strategy to drive premium growth. Everest said the transaction builds on its previously announced plan to exit commercial retail insurance — a major part of which was accomplished with the sale in October 2025 of its global Commercial Retail Insurance renewal rights to AIG. In December, AIG announced it received approval to proceed with the…
NextEra Energy Inc. agreed to pay about $67 billion in stock for Dominion Energy Inc. in the biggest power acquisition ever, creating a giant utility extending from Florida to the artificial intelligence data centers clustered in Virginia. The scope of the transaction underscores how the spike in AI-driven power demand is pushing the utilities sector to seek ever-greater size and clout. The deal would position NextEra as the dominant utility in a region that’s struggling to meet the surge in electricity consumption. Juno Beach-based NextEra, parent company of Florida Power & Light, would pay the equivalent of about $76 per…
Anthropic said on Monday it is revising its earlier position to allow users of its Mythos cybersecurity model to share information about cyber threats with others who may be exposed to similar vulnerabilities. Mythos, announced on April 7, is being deployed as part of Anthropic’s “Project Glasswing,” a controlled initiative under which select organizations, including major tech firms such as Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia and Apple, are permitted to use the unreleased Claude Mythos Preview model for defensive cybersecurity purposes. Mythos’ capabilities to code at a high level have given it a potentially unprecedented ability to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and devise…
From drought to ping-pong size hail and unseasonable warmth, weather extremes have wheat farmers reaching for their phones to ring their insurance adjusters to assess the viability of their crops. Oklahoma farmer Dennis Schoenhals made the call a few weeks ago, after a storm hammered his wheat with icy chunks, bending the stalks in half, while only dropping an inch of rain. “We thought we were really going to have a good crop — the best crop we’d ever had — and then we got hit by hail,” he said. “According to the adjuster, we’ve had about 70% damage. We…
A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration’s sweeping demands for confidential transgender patient information from Rhode Island’s largest hospital that provides gender-affirming care to minors. U.S. District Judge Mary McElroy’s Wednesday ruling is the latest setback for the U.S. Department of Justice, where at least seven other federal courts have agreed to quash or limit the expansive civil subpoenas sent to more than 20 doctors and hospitals last summer. McElroy’s decision also echoed similar concerns raised by judges surrounding the expansive scope of the subpoenas, describing the Justice Department as having “immense prosecutorial authority and discretion” but no longer…

Elected officials for the city and county are expected to vote on the deal at separate meetings next week. “The Rays respectfully but resolutely encourage Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa to approve the MOU and make possible a Forever Home for our community’s Tampa…
It appears as though auto and home insurers have caught up, appropriately matching premium to risk in their portfolios. According to a new report from insurance industry rating agency AM Best, rate increases for homeowners and private passenger auto insurance dropped in 2025 following several years of significant rate increases as insurers’ underwriting profits wound up in the red.
