Tesla Inc. was sued by the family of a 76-year-old woman who was killed after a Model 3 sedan allegedly using driver-assistance software slammed into her home near Houston. The electric-vehicle maker’s automated technology failed to detect the end of the roadway and stop before slamming into a brick house, according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Texas state court. Millions of honeybees escaped into a rural Texas neighborhood after a semitrailer carrying about 400 hives tipped over, officials said. Emergency officials in Orange County, Texas, shut down roads in the area Sunday morning and warned residents to stay in their homes while crews worked to unload the trailer and salvage as many hives as possible. The county is located east of Houston and borders Louisiana. No bee stings or serious injuries were immediately reported. Officials haven’t identified the owner of the hives. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) said it was the victim of a data breach, though an investigation has found the group responsible is unlikely to have the scope of data it has claimed. The NAIC said the cyber incident was the result of a broad campaign that affected multiple organizations to exploit a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft. NAIC uses PeopleSoft primarily for internal financial reporting purposes, it said in a June 23 update of the situation. New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani yesterday signed an Executive Order directing a “whole-of-government response” to protect workers from extreme heat. The order directs the departments of Health and Mental Hygiene, Emergency Management and the Citywide Administrative Services to develop and distribute multilingual heat safety guidance for outdoor workers as soon as practicable this year. Guidance for indoor workers will be issued by March 1, 2027. The order also directs the city’s mental health department to study the relationship between extreme heat and workers’ compensation claims and evaluate whether heat illness should be designated a reportable health condition.
