Two new products on the market could help reduce losses and property insurance claims in storm-prone parts of the Southeast and beyond, makers announced recently. Flood Risk America, based in Lake Worth, Florida, said it has expanded its flood protection lineup with three new systems: Hinged flood gates, permanent flood doors, and fabric flood barriers. The gates allow entry-point protection for properties without blocking daily access, the firm said in a news release. First quarter 2026 underwriting income in American International Group’s (AIG) General Insurance segment increased nearly 220% compared with the prior year, to $774 million. Financial results for the first three months of the year included catastrophe losses of $180 million, compared with $525 million a year ago, plus favorable net prior year development of $132 million versus $64 million in Q1 2025. Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire TriBridge Partners, an independent benefits broker and retirement and wealth advisor headquartered in Columbia, Maryland. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TriBridge Partners was founded in 2013 upon the strategic merger between three regional brokerage and advisory firms serving the Mid-Atlantic. The Department of Justice announced a proposed settlement with Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Corporation (Cliffs) requiring it to address releases of hazardous waste at its Middletown Works facility. Under the proposed consent decree, Cliffs will perform long-term corrective measures to comply with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The required corrective measures will address several site areas at the Middletown Works, a 2,600-acre integrated steel mill that has operated in Middletown, Ohio, since 1901. Two young people have been arrested in an alleged plot to attack a Texas synagogue that involved driving through the congregation to “kill as many Jews as possible,” according to authorities and court documents. The arrests come a month after an armed man crashed his pickup truck into a major Detroit-area synagogue in another attack on Jewish people. U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey this week sentenced former St. Louis Alderman Brandon Bosley to 16 months in prison for insurance fraud and lying to the FBI. Bosley will be on supervised release for three years after his release from prison. Judge Autrey also ordered Bosley to pay restitution of $6,253.90 to the insurance company that he defrauded. Bosley, 38, was found guilty by a jury in U.S. District Court in St. Louis in January of three felony wire fraud charges and one count of making a false statement to the FBI.
