U.S. commercial insurance rates increased 2.5% in the first quarter 2026, according to the latest WTW Commercial Lines Insurance Pricing Survey (CLIPS). “The first quarter results reflect a continuation of the moderating pricing environment observed over recent quarters,” said Yi Jing, managing director, Insurance Consulting and Technology (ICT), WTW. “While Commercial Auto and Excess/Umbrella Liability continue to experience the largest increases, the pace of those increases has eased, with pricing trends across much of the market remaining stable.” According to prior results, Q1 was the third consecutive quarter of moderating rate increases. Rates increased 2.9% in Q4 2025 and nearly…
Two congressional Republicans from Georgia have introduced impeachment resolutions against a federal judge in Atlanta who was disciplined after an investigation found she had sex with a police officer in her chambers, attended a partisan political event and lied to investigators looking into the alleged misconduct. U.S. Reps. Clay Fuller and Andrew Clyde filed the resolutions against U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross. Clyde wrote Tuesday on social media that Ross’ “deeply disturbing actions prove she is incapable of displaying integrity or impartiality. She must be impeached and removed from the bench.” Judge Handled Several Insurance Cases, Including One on Expert…
A unanimous New Jersey Supreme Court ruled on June 10 that a federally qualified nonprofit health center that provides healthcare to underserved populations is not entitled to immunity from a patient’s negligence suit under the state’s Charitable Immunity Act (CIA) that shields entities “organized exclusively for religious, charitable or educational purposes.” Rather, Newark Community Health Centers, Inc. (NCHC) is instead entitled only to a $250,000 cap on damages as provided by the charitable immunity law because it is “organized exclusively for hospital purposes,” the high court found in reversing lower courts on the immunity issue. The CIA that provides nonprofit…
President Donald Trump said on Thursday the United States would hit Iran “very hard tonight” and wanted eventually to take Iran’s oil infrastructure hub Kharg Island, after tit-for-tat strikes in the Gulf that have undermined a shaky ceasefire. Iranian sources and Western officials said indirect U.S.-Iranian talks on a preliminary peace deal had intensified. But a worsening of hostilities this week has undermined prospects for a swift end to more than three months of war. Trump threatened new strikes on Iran after the two sides traded air attacks on Thursday for the second successive day. “The United States will be…

The liquidation of China Evergrande Group, the collapsed property developer, is raising concerns among some partners at its former auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers China about the potential impact on their own finances. Several partners at PwC’s Hong Kong and mainland China affiliates say they are exploring strategies to safeguard personal assets, in case legal and regulatory challenges facing the firms ever spill over into any financial or legal burdens for themselves. One says he has even contemplated divorce as a means to shield wealth, while another is cutting education budgets for his children. A couple of former senior leaders at the Hong…
The co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s said the ice cream brand’s new owner is in the “process of destroying” the Cherry Garcia maker’s future by stopping it from criticizing US President Donald Trump. Ben Cohen, who started the brand in 1978 with Jerry Greenfield, is locked in a months-long fight with the Magnum Ice Cream Company over Ben & Jerry’s right to speak out on social issues. Muzzling a brand known for its progressive stance on social justice issues is hypocritical and will damage the brand, perhaps irrevocably, according to Cohen. “Trumpism is essentially the biggest attack on the values…
